Sometimes, writing can be difficult for me. It isn’t that I lack ideas or have writer’s block, but I cannot focus on one thing at a time, which can make my writing time very chaotic. So, I have to plan what I want to accomplish while sitting behind the keyboard. In the past, I haven’t been good at doing this. I went too long with my head in the sand and let my writing fall by the wayside.
I’ve improved lately. This year, my personal goals are to finish projects in a timely manner, be more visible here, and get the most out of the time I make for myself to tell my stories. One way I tried to help with my goal setting and completion was by bringing the “Dry Erase Board of Responsibility” back from the dead. This allows my scattered mind to focus on the top items on my project list, and it’s a reward to update the word count or check a story off the list. If you have multiple projects going on or need help being organized, I highly suggest using a board.
Now, what projects do I have on the board for this year? I plan to release three books this year. The first one is my weird horror book, The Eldritch Night. The cover is coming soon, and the preorders will open for an early May release in paperback and Kindle. In late July or August, I will have a new collection. It’ll collect some out-of-print things, new stories, and a new novelette. The collection will be a pretty hefty tome but feature some of my best work. Lastly, I’m writing the final book in my Dying Days Trilogy. It’s been a blast being able to explore some places Armand Rosamilia didn’t get to in his series. I’m sad wrapping it up, but it’s time to keep moving on. The plan is to release this at Author Con in October. Armand will be there, and it will be an honor to party with him as I end my series.
One project is not on the board, but I can’t discuss it yet. Hopefully, I can before I attend Author Con St. Louis this October.
The board has allowed me to be the most productive I’ve been in a few years. Sometimes, I’m tired from work, and the tasks on the board seem daunting. However, it also gives me the drive I need to keep moving. Yeah, I may jump around a couple of different things when I sit and write, but I can see progress being made. It may not be as much as I want on a particular day, but progress is progress.
I hope you enjoyed this little insight into my mind and process. Take care of each other and be good to one another. Until next time we meet, my friends,
Later,
Brent
